"Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication,
uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry."(Colossians 3:5)
"They feared the Lord, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations.."(2 Kings 17:33)
Are there Christians who worship the Lord in church, and yet serve their own gods...
the idols of the lusts of the flesh,
the lusts of the eye, and the pride of life?
Jesus is your saviour, but is He also Lord and on the throne of your life?
Or are you worshiping the Lord and also serving your own gods?
His Lordship over you...is it according to your way or His way?
Remember, God wants obedience not sacrifice according to your way.
It is His way and His will that count.
When you watch football or see TV or a movie or go to a party or eat a chocolate or cereal,
is there a pull you cannot fight against?
Food by itself is not an idol, but when the love for it is greater than for God,
it becomes an idol. It has become the first love.
Imagine your wife asking you,"Do you love me more than football or the food?"
"You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too." (1 Corinthians 10:19)
An idol in itself is nothing...it is dead, made of wood or stone or gold.
What gives it power?...when it becomes an altar in the heart,
when affections, love and trust are given to it,
when demons are invited to dwell in it.
An idol is what we put before God in our lives.
"have no other gods before Me."
It is anything that block our view of God,
something we put our trust in,
something we put our love, our desire, our worship,
our hope, faith and attention in, more than in God,
something that competes for our first love.
Imagine your wife asking you,"Are you looking more at football or at me?"
We're not to give our affections and love to the things of the world.
All the treasures of the world will pass away; one day all the oil and petrol will be no more.
There'll be financial crisis, energy crisis, food crisis and enviromental crisis.
You're living on a physical and temporary earth; your physical life is also temporary.
Dust to dust, and ashes to ashes; naked you come, and naked you'll go.

God works things out for good
"All things work together for good to those who love God,
to those who are called according to His purpose." ( )
If our lives are free from pain, turmoil and sorrow,
we may not come to know God's faithfulness in such a personal way,
like King David did through fears, troubles and afflictions.
to those who are called according to His purpose." ( )
If our lives are free from pain, turmoil and sorrow,
we may not come to know God's faithfulness in such a personal way,
like King David did through fears, troubles and afflictions.
